(Cricket News) In the first One-Day International at the Wanderers on Sunday, the KL Rahul-led visitors crushed South Africa by eight wickets thanks to the devastating work of Indian pace bowlers Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh.

Avesh returned figures of 4 for 27 in his eight overs, while left-armer Arshdeep had excellent figures of 5 for 37 in 10 overs as the Proteas were dismissed for a pitiful 116 in 27.3 overs. After that, Sai Sudharsan (55 not out) and Shreyas Iyer (52) struck impressive half centuries to chase down the target in 16.4 overs for the loss of two wickets.

22-year-old top order batsman B Sai Sudharsan and bowling all-rounder Nandre Burger were given their debut caps by India and South Africa, respectively. The Proteas lost their way when they batted first and continued to lose wickets.

Arshdeep Singh of India took a fifer and Avesh Khan picked four wickets. Kuldeep Yadav completed the Proteas’ innings in a trademark manner. The Proteas managed to score just 116 runs in 27.3 overs; now India must score 117 runs to win.

Earlier, Arshdeep Singh removed Zorzi (28) on the fifth delivery of the eighth over, as he was caught by KL Rahul. Arshdeep Singh removed Klaasen on the final delivery of the tenth over, as he hits his stumps. Earlier, Arshdeep Singh removed Hendricks and Dussen in the second over, as neither batsman was able to open their account.

After that, Avesh Khan removed Proteas captain Aiden Markram (12) on the first delivery of the 11th over, then removed Wiaan Mulder for a golden duck in the next over. He then removed David Miller (2) on the final delivery of the 13th over, and after that, removed Keshav Maharaj (4) on the first delivery of the 17th over. This was also Avesh Khan’s fourth wicket. Arshdeep Singh then bowls his final over, taking Andile Phehlukwayo (33) by LBW on the first delivery of the 26th over, marking his fifth wicket.

After being brought back to close out the Proteas innings, Kuldeep Yadav does so in style in the 28th over, breaking the latter’s stumps and ending the innings for SA. Of the players who scored the most runs for SA, Andile Phehlukwayo (33) and Tony de Zorzi (28 runs) were the highest scorers; no other batter was able to surpass the 15-run mark.
