(Cricket News) The Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq, who signed with the Sharjah Warriors for Season 1 of the tournament, was charged with violating his Player Agreement with the team. The Warriors offered Naveen an extension for an additional year, but he refused to sign the retention notice for Season 2. Naveen-ul-Haq was given a 20-month suspension in ILT20 as a result of his actions.
“Unfortunately, Naveen-ul-Haq failed to honor his contractual obligations with the Sharjah Warriors and as such the league had no option but to impose this 20-month ban on him,” said David White, CEO of ILT20, in a release on Monday.
“We do not take pride in making this announcement but all parties are expected to comply with their contractual commitments and recognize that non-compliance can cause damage to the other party.”
A disciplinary committee comprising White, Head of Security and Anti-Corruption Col. Azam, and Member Emirates Cricket Board Zayed Abbas was formed to hear both sides before imposing the ban.
The release states that Naveen, who played for Sharjah Warriors in Season 1 of the ILT20, was sent a retention notice on the same terms and conditions in accordance with the Player Agreement terms.
The ILT20 initially initiated a mediation process through an independent third-party mediator after Sharjah Warriors had approached them to intervene in this dispute, but the mediation process failed.
