(Sports news) In order to secure a place in the semifinals of the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, India H.S. Prannoy defeated Malaysia Lee Zii Jia on Thursday with scores of 21-16, 21-23, and 23-21.

Prannoy, the player with the highest ranking in men’s singles, got things going by easily winning set 1 21-16. The second game was set up for the Indian to win everything, but Zii Jia rallied and won it 21–23 to send the match into a third and decisive game.

In the decisive game, Prannoy maintained composure and prevailed in a nail-biting three-set contest to seal his medal. After Syed Modi’s bronze medal from the 1998 Asian Games, Prannoy’s victory marked India’s only other men’s singles medal at an Asian Games.

Earlier, Prannoy was unable to compete due to a back issue for the men’s team, which finished with a silver medal after losing to China in the final.
