India

(Cricket news) India’s second Test against West Indies had some very good moments. Mohammed Siraj bagged his first Player of the match award in Test cricket. He did the role of senior pacer as he picked up 5/60 in the first innings and that too on a very flat wicket. Virat Kohli scored 121 odd 206 balls at a very crucial point of the match. The ton was Kohli’s first away from home since December 2018 at Perth. The former Indian captain looked in total control throughout the innings to put his side in a very good position. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s opening partnership is looking really good as the left hand-right hand combination is working wonders.

The result however didn’t go in India’s fabour mainly due to the rain. The pitch was pretty flat which makes it difficult for any team to get a result. As it stands, India are second in the World Test Championship table behind Pakistan. The men in blue are yet to play South Africa and Australia away from home along with England, New Zealand and Bangladesh at home. Apart from Bangladesh, West Indies was on paper the least difficult series. Not winning it 2-0 may end up costing India a place in the World Test Championship final. This may force to push for results against the tougher opponents which may end up with them losing certain matches.

The players and management will definitely not be too disappointed about the draw mainly because the team did everything in their power to get a result. The pitch and the weather is not in their control which were the two factors that resulted in a draw. Now team India’s focus will turn to the One Day Internationals with the World Cup coming up. India’s injury list is about to get thinner as Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul are close to regaining match fitness. Rishabh Pant and Prasidh Krishna are also recovering well which is incredible news for India.
