Hemp not concerned over Shanto’s dip in form

(Cricket News) Bangladesh’s newly appointed batting coach said he’s not to concerned over the dip in form of Najmul Hossain Shanto. Shanto is Bangladesh’s all-format captain and he is not having a very good Bangladesh Premier League.

Shanto has been an integral part of the Bangladesh set-up. He’s been playing a major role with the bat when it comes to the national side. However his performances in the ongoing BPL has not lived up to his standards. He has scored just 175 runs from 12 games at an average of 14.58 and a strike-rate of 93.58.

“I think from Shanto’s point of view, he played very well in New Zealand. I think it’s important to realize that you don’t become a bad player overnight,” Hemp told.

“He knows his game and he knows what his strengths are. For me, [it is] just to remind him what those strengths are. It’s important to tell him how he approaches and what he thinks because he might be going through a quiet patch in terms of runs but it doesn’t mean he becomes a bad player. The key thing is to remind him of what he does well and help him keep that positive mindset and the approach of scoring runs,” he added.

Shanto in his International career, has represented Bangladesh in 25 tests, 42 ODIs and 28 T20Is. The batter averages more than 30 in the longest format as well as in the ODIs. He was also Bangladesh’s third highest run-scorer in the ODI World Cup which concluded in India last year.
