Head, Hazelwood helps Australia dominate Day 2 of the Adelaide Test

(Cricket news) Travis Head’s blistering century and a Four-fer from Hazlewood on the second day of the First test match in Adelaide, allowed Australia to continue their dominance and take a firm control of the game against the West Indies.

Travis Head notched up a brilliant century, his Seventh in international cricket to help Australia with an important 95-run lead against the visitors after being reduced to 129/5 , thanks to a wonderful spell of fast bowling by the debutant Shamar Joseph who took 5 wickets.

A dismal batting display from the visitors continued as they were rattled by a superb spell from Josh Hazlewood. West Indies lost 5 wickets for just 40 runs as their top order had no answers to the class of Hazlewood. Justin Greaves and Joshua De Silva tried to display some resilience for the tourists but it did not last for long as the former was dismissed by Lyon.

With the wicket still offering assistance to the bowlers, Hazlewood remained unplayable through his new-ball spell that ended with staggering figures of 6-4-11-4. He struck with his very first delivery as Tagenarine Chanderpaul nicked one behind to the keeper and was dismissed for a golden duck. Travis Head’s sharp catch at short leg led to the dismissal of the West Indian skipper which was soon followed by Athanaze and Hodge.

Earlier Head’s century at a crucial juncture of the game came to the rescue for the hosts after a testing morning session where the visitors bowled with a lot of discipline. It was eventually Alzarri who brought curtains on the stunning knock on 119, with an offcutter that Head ended up skying to give a catch at the ropes at the stroke of Tea, just after Australia went past 250.

The Aussies ended the 2nd day, having a good control over the game, as West Indies are 6 for 73 and still trail by 22 runs in the first test match. The game is moving forward quickly and is expected to produce a result within the first two sessions of Day 3.

Brief scores: West Indies 188 & 73/6 (Kirk McKenzie 26; Josh Hazlewood 4-18) ,Australia 283 (Travis Head 119; Shamar Joseph 5-94) , West Indies trail by 22 runs
