(Motorsport News) Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time Formula 1 champion, is poised to make a switch from Mercedes to Ferrari for the 2025 season. Although Mercedes and Ferrari have not officially commented on the matter, sources indicate that Hamilton will fill the spot left by Spanish driver Carlos Sainz.
The 39-year-old Hamilton, affiliated with Mercedes since 2013, secured his inaugural title in 2008 as a member of McLaren. His current contract with Mercedes is set to expire next year. Despite the absence of public statements from the teams involved, last year, Lewis expressed optimism about Mercedes’ ability to bounce back from challenging seasons and compete with Red Bull.
Lewis holds the record for the most successful driver in F1 history, boasting 103 wins and 104 pole positions, with only Michael Schumacher sharing the distinction of seven world titles. Speculation had surfaced last year, ahead of the final race in Abu Dhabi, suggesting Lewis’s interest in joining Red Bull. However, Hamilton refuted such claims, stating that neither he nor his team representatives had approached Red Bull’s team principal, Christian Horner. Hamilton affirmed that he had thoroughly checked with his team to ensure that no such communication had occurred.
