Gurbaz leads Afghanistan to victory in final ODI against Bangladesh

(Cricket news) The Afghanistan tour of Bangladesh completed the ODI series as the visitors avoided a whitewash in a low scoring contest. Afghanistan won the 3rd ODI by 7 wickets as Bangladesh batters failed to provide the support after winning the toss.

The Bangladesh openers went past the 40 run mark for the first time in the series as Tamim Iqbal was dismissed by Fazalhaq Farooqi for the third consecutive time. Liton Das continued his form from the previous match when he top scored with 86 runs and was finally out in the 36th over as the team was stuck at 153-5. Shakib Al Hasan had a 50 plus run partnership with Das but could not hold it for long, Mushfiqur Rahim and Yasir Ali could not contribute as they were sent back in successive overs by Rashid Khan.

Mahmudullah did not score any boundaries but stood for almost 10 overs and the team was looking to beyond 200 runs but the rest of the batters fell like a deck of cards. Two run outs in the 46th over made sure the 200 mark was impossible, the team registered its second lowest score against Afghanistan.

Afghanistan finally cracked the opening partnership code as Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Riaz Hassan scored 79 runs which is the highest opening partnership between both teams. Shakib as expected delivered the breakthrough, the ball spun away from Riaz and Mushfiqur was quick to take the bails off. Rahmat Shah walked into the crease which strengthened their hold even more as the team was nearing a win. Mehidy Hasan got the next two wickets, Rahmat came down the track only to be stumped and Hashmatullah Shahidi missed a sweep but Bangladesh was in full control needing 10 more runs in 76 balls.

After captain Hashmatullah's dismissal, wicketkeeper Gurbaz scored his 3rd century in the 50 over format and became the first player from his country to score an ODI century against Bangladesh. Tamim was the only batter to have scored a century whenever the sides met until Liton Das joined his teammate in the 2nd ODI and now the latest being the Afghan opener. Gurbaz hit the winning runs off Mehidy Hasan with over 10 overs to spare and now will be heading to Dhaka as the sides will meet for the two T20 matches.

Farooqi finished as the leading wicket taker with 6 wickets in 3 matches while Rashid and Shakib came in second with 5 wickets each. Das led the batters with 223 runs in 3 matches and Rahmat came in second with 133 runs.
