Due to a back injury, Australia’s all-rounder Camron Green has been forced out of the ongoing England series. There is no certainty over how the current situation will impact his participation in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India later this year. 

According to Cricket Australia, an assessment upon Green’s arrival in Perth will reveal the exact degree of his injury. It is almost two months until the first Test against India begins in Perth on November 22.

After the third ODI in Chester-le-Street, where he went 2 for 45 with the ball and scored 45 with the bat, the Aussie all-rounder reported feeling soreness in his back. He returned home ahead of the next series against India, which is of utmost importance after preliminary scans revealed a back issue.

Green played all three Twenty20 Internationals against Scotland but was rested from the second ODI against England in Leeds in order to manage his workload. After losing Nathan Ellis, Xavier Bartlett, Riley Meredith, and Ben Dwarshuis, Green is the fifth player that Australia has lost on its miserable tour of the UK thus far due to injuries.

If the injury forces the all-rounder out of the tests against India, it would be a major blow for the Australian side, given Green’s utility as an all-rounder, especially in the red-ball format. Australia are keen to bounce back against India who have beaten them twice in a row at home. They would be desperate to regain the Border-Gavaskar trophy and prevent India from making it three in a row.

India could well be said as one of Green’s favorite opponents. The all-rounder made his International as well as World Cup debut against India. He even went on to score his first test century (114) in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India in Ahmedabad.

Further reports are awaited to provide clarity on Green’s fate. The Australian side would be hoping for it not to be any severe issue.
