Gordon and Chelsea try to push deal through despite Everton resistance

(Football news) Anthony Gordon has been linked with a move to Chelsea for about 2 weeks now. Everton have reportedly already rejected a £40m bid but Chelsea are preparing to come back with an improved offer. The player is reportedly pushing for a move but Frank Lampard has stated multiple times that he wants Gordon to stay as he is very important for them. Chelsea are likely to offer a player swap as Lampard has been interested in a few Chelsea players this summer. A solution is likely to be found soon as Chelsea seem to be desperate for the signing. Pressure from the player's side will definitely make it very complicated for Everton to keep hold of him.

Chelsea have had a troublesome start to the season, having won only 1 of their first 3 Premier League games. After a change in ownership, they have signed 7 players in the summer. Chelsea are lacking a proper number 9 after selling Timo Werner and loaning out Romelu Lukaku. The Blues have been linked with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Rafael Leao but nothing is advanced. Anthony Gordon is definitely not the kind of player who will solve Chelsea's goal scoring problems but he is one to keep an eye on in the future. Hakim Ziyech is reportedly on his way back to Ajax and Gordon could be a good replacement for him.

Everton on the other hand have just got 1 point from their opening 3 games. They have just beaten Fleetwood in round 2 of the EFL cup. The Toffees have already lost their best player in Richarlison and losing Gordon at this stage could be catastrophic. Everton are likely to be battling relegation this season and they have to keep hold of Gordon. The Merseyside club have made a few good signings but they still lack quality in the attacking department. Having said that the money and/or players Chelsea might offer in the revised bid may be too good to say no to which is why it wouldn't be a surprise if Everton let him go.
