Germany to try and convince Toni Kroos to return for the Qatar World Cup

(Football news) The Qatar World Cup is just a few days away and all the nations participating will be focused on selecting the best possible XI for the World Cup. Germany have been dealt a massive blow as Timo Werner has been ruled out of the mega tournament due to an ankle injury. Marco Reus is also a doubt due to his persistent fitness issues while Thomas Muller is also a doubt. Germany's performances have not been great as they finished 3rd in their Nations League group behind Italy and Hungary. Now at the World Cup they are in the group of death with Spain, Japan and Costa Rica. Amidst all this there are reports that claim that the German FA along with coach Hansi Flick are trying to convince Toni Kroos to reconsider his retirement and play the World Cup.

After Germany's disappointing loss against England in the Euro 2020 Round of 16, Toni Kroos hung up his international boots saying that he wanted to put all his effort into succeeding at Real Madrid and that he also wanted to spend time with his family. Since then Toni Kroos has been at the same level with Real Madrid. This season the midfielder has been on fire and he has taken his game to another level as he has added an extra defensive edge. In the UCL this season he has the most passes into the final third with 80 which is 22 more than 2nd placed Rodri. He is still the best active German player by some distance. It's not like he is old as he is just 32 years of age and has shown again and again that he is still capable of playing at the highest level for many years to come.

His international return however is unlikely as he doesn't think like the majority of other players. Kroos is in the final year of his Real Madrid contract and hasn't yet started negotiating for a new one despite the fact that Los Blancos are keen to keep him. He has already said that he will think about it next year as he wants to retire at Real Madrid but he doesn't know when. The German has always said that he doesn't want to play till he is very old and would like to retire early while he is on top of his game. He could surprise everyone and go to Qatar after all as coming back from international is something that happens a lot in football.
