Francisco Trincao joins Sporting Lisbon for a fee of €10 million

(Football news) Having completed the sales of Philippe Coutinho, Rey Manaj and sending Clement Lenglet out on loan, Barcelona are on the verge of sealing another out of favour player from the club this summer. Portuguese winger Francisco Trincao is on the verge of completing a move back to his home country where he will be joining Sporting CP. The 22-year-old joined the Catalan club from SC Braga in 2020 but had a very difficult first season under Ronald Koeman. He was loaned out to Premier League side Wolves last season as the winger failed to make the most of his time in England.

Barça are planning to add Raphinha and have offered Ousmane Dembele a new 2 year contract. Trincao was never going to find a place in Xavi Hernandez’s squad at Camp Nou next season. An exit was the best outcome for both parties involved as the 22-year-old can revive his career in Portugal and hope to get into the Portugal World Cup squad this year while Barcelona cashed in on a player who does not feature in the manager’s plans. It was initially believed that Trincao would join Sporting Lisbon on an initial loan deal with an option for purchase. However, the 22-year-old will be leaving Barcelona on a permanent transfer with Sporting CP paying Barça a transfer fee of €10 million for Trincao, with the Catalan giants retaining 50% of future sales for the 22-year-old.

It has been further reported that Barca will receive €3 million upfront, with the remaining €7 million set to be paid at the end of the season. Trincao will be signing a five-year contract with Sporting, an official announcement confirming the transfer could be made imminently. Barcelona have managed to insert a buy-back clause in his contract with Sporting. As per reports the Catalans can re-sign Trincao for €15 million at the end of his first season. If Barcelona wish to sign him back after his second season with Sporting which will be in 2024, they would have to pay €17.5 million. Subsequently, if the La Liga giants plan to take him back in 2025, they would have to shell out €20 million.
