Former Spain and Barcelona boss Luis Enrique in London for Chelsea talks

Luis Enrique is in talks with the Chelsea hierarchy to take over as manager after Graham Potter’s sacking

(Football news) Former Spain and Barcelona manager Luis Enrique is in London to hold talks with Chelsea for the post of manager. The 52 year old won the treble with Barcelona in the 2014/15 season and left the job as Spain manager after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after failing to meet expectations. The Blues have currently short listed seven candidates which includes Luis Enrique following Graham Potter’s seven month stint at Stamford Bridge.

Reports suggest that former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann is also a front runner for the position with talks between his and Chelsea’s representatives going positively. The 35 year old has been linked to both Chelsea and Tottenham and appears to be keen to work in the Premier League but wants a short reset period after being sacked by Bayern Munich and ideally wants to start a new job in the summer. An agreement being reached in the coming weeks that is only effective next season is not out of the realm of possibility.

Chelsea are also considering Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique, Ruben Amorim, Oliver Glasner and Luciano Spalletti but have not set themselves a deadline to make an appointment. The club are currently 11th on the Premier League table with 39 points and will take on Wolves in their next match on April 8th. European football remains unlikely for the Blues which could become a big problem, especially considering the calibre of players they have signed in the last two transfer windows, who would want to compete at the highest level. Todd Boehly and the other members of Chelsea’s hierarchy will want instant results from the interim manager in order to salvage their disastrous season.
