Tottenham look to end transfer window with Daniel James signing

(Football news) Tottenham Hotspur have had quite an eventful transfer window. After securing UCL qualification on the very last day last season, Antonio Conte's side was expected to splash the cash this summer. The recruitment has not been disappointing as Tottenham have signed 7 players. Now reports claim that Spurs are now eyeing an 8th signing in the form of Daniel James to end the window with a bang. The Welshman is reportedly keen on the move and Leeds are likely to accept a proposal that is good enough. Fulham are also interested in the winger but it seems like Tottenham have the upper hand.

The signing is a bit of a shock as Tottenham already have Son Heung-Min, Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison and Lucas Moura as wingers. Signing James could be looked at as surplus to needs as he doesn't improve Tottenham's squad. James failed to crack it at Manchester United and ever since his move to Leeds United, he hasn't been anything out of the ordinary. Tottenham Hotspur have a tight schedule this season with participation in the UEFA Champions League and the World Cup coming in December. They need their squad to have the depth to cover for any injuries that will definitely happen.

James is not a bad option to have on the bench as a super sub. He has electric pace which can leave the defenders for dead. He can be an outlet for Antonio Conte to run in behind tired defences towards the end of the game. After starting the first 3 Premier League games of the season, James was benched for their last game against Everton. Tottenham Hotspur on the other hand just dropped points for the 2nd time this season with a draw away at West Ham. The signing will have to be sealed quickly because the deadline is fast approaching.
