Martin Braithwaite finally agrees for the termination Barcelona contract

(Football news) According to reports in Spain Martin Braithwaite has finally reached an agreement with Barcelona for the termination of his contract. Official announcement is likely to come in a couple of days which is also when the player will announce his next club. The Danish forward was signed by Barcelona as an emergency signing in 2020 outside of the transfer window. The Blaugrana were allowed to sign the player after Ousmane Dembele suffered a season ending injury. The signing was heavily controversial as Braithwaite was an important player for Leganes who were not permitted by La Liga to replace him. Leganes lost their best player as Barcelona paid his €18 million release clause to sign him on a four-and-a-half-year contract.

Braithwaite had some good moments with Barcelona and scored some important goals for the club. After a complete rebuild under Xavi, the striker naturally fell down the pecking order. Barcelona had not included Braithwaite in any training sessions this season and were forcing him to find a new club. With two years left on his contract, Braithwaite either struggled to find a new club or didn't want to. All the deadwood at Barcelona were banished from training and forced to find a new club. Even though it can be deemed as disrespectful, Barcelona don't have an option due to their struggles to register players.

Riqui Puig, who was one of the players forced to leave the club said "It was a tough month because I had never seen that before, leaving players behind in Barcelona and going on a tour without them," he said. "Perhaps I understand the club’s position, they want to put pressure on players to leave, but there are other ways to do it. It was really difficult being in Barcelona, training alone, with four other teammates who were also there with me.

"After seven years at the club, being in Barcelona when all my team-mates are in Los Angeles playing matches, well, the truth is that it hurt me a lot. It’s a difficult situation and sometimes you have to make decisions and they have made this decision but I don’t agree with it." When Barcelona presented all their players at the Nou Camp, Braithwaite's arrival was met with a lot of jeers, boos and whistles. What Barcelona are doing is certainly on the edge of ethical boundaries but it is something they have to do if they want to speed up the rebuild.
