(Football news) Toni Kroos has reportedly injured his hamstring in training. He will miss the La Liga game and is practically ruled out of the PSG clash. It is a very big blow for Real Madrid who will already be without Casemiro and Ferland Mendy against PSG. Real Madrid have to overcome a 1-0 deficit to make it to the quarter finals. La Liga is also in a critical position as one loss for Real Madrid can bring Sevilla back into the title.
It is very clear that Carlo Ancelotti doesn't believe in rotation and likes to play the same players in every game. It could be said that this injury is because Kroos has played a lot of games. The German midfielder has started almost every game this season and the majority of the time plays for the entire 90 minutes. Kroos' control in the midfield is something Real Madrid will definitely miss. In absence of Casemiro, Kroos would've been the one to play as the holding midfielder but not that option is not available which leaves Real Madrid in deep trouble.
Against PSG, Luka Modric and Fede Valverde are guaranteed to start in midfield. The third position is open for consideration as Eduardo Camavinga, Isco and Dani Ceballos are the options. Camavinga started the game against Granada on 7th February and was substituted at half time. Since then, Camavinga has played 2 minutes as a substitute in the last game against Rayo Vallecano and Dani Ceballos has played more minutes which could mean that Ceballos is ahead in the pecking order.
Camavinga's experience of playing in the Ligue 1 against PSG will come in handy. Modric, Camavinga and Valverde is the likely midfield against PSG. One thing that trio will have more than Kroos, Casemiro, Modric is mobilty and energy. Real Madrid's counter press will be much better but they will lose a little bit of control and solidity. Before PSG, Madrid has a La Liga game against Real Sociedad where we could see a midfield of Modric, Casemiro Valverde.
