(Football news) After Carlo Ancelotti left Everton for Real Madrid, the Toffees raised quite a few eyebrows by appointing Liverpool legend Rafa Benitez. The Spaniard had a positive start but the results soon dried up and Benitez was sacked. The Merseyside club are currently 16th on the League table just 4 points off the relegation zone and Frank Lampard has been appointed as the replacement. 

Lampard brings his Premier League experience to Everton. The job he did at Chelsea was good for a long period but eventually the results kept getting worse. Lampard looks like the right candidate for the job and has already started his work. Immediately after his appointment he played a very crucial role in hijacking Manchester United's Donny Van de Beek who was about to sign for Crystal Palace. Everton also signed Dele Alli from Tottenham Hotspur. His first task would be to avoid relegation at any cost and then build from there.

Here are 3 things Frank Lampard has to do at Everton in order to be successful:

3) Get the best out of Dominic Calvert-Lewin:

This time last year Calvert-Lewin was on top of the world. In the 2020/21 season, the striker scored 16 Premier League goals and made it to the Euros squad for England. He scored 3 goals in 3 at the start of this season but then suffered a toe fracture that kept him out of action for 125 days. Since his return Calvert-Lewin has played 90 minutes in all 3 games but has failed to make an impact. Lampard will have to get the target man firing again. The English striker is the perfect focal point for Lampard to build his team around.

2) Get the new signings up and running immediately:

The disadvantage that Lampard has is that he doesn't have much time to gel the new signings and experiment with his way of football. Two more losses and Everton could be in the drop. The Toffees have signed midfielders Anwar El Ghazi, Dele Alli and Donny Van de Beek along with full backs Nathan Patterson and Vitalii Mykolenko. Lampard needs to get these players settled into the team and make them play at their highest level. Both Dele Alli and Donny Van de Beek haven't played much football this season and they might need to be on the bench for the first couple of games.

1) Get the central midfield combination right:

At Chelsea, Lampard preferred the 4-2-3-1 formation. Everton already had Fabian Delph, Tom Davies, Allan, Andre Gomes, Abdoulaye Doucoure as central midfielders to which they added Donny Van de Beek and Dele Alli. Even though Alli is more of a 2nd striker, he will have to take up a midfield place. The first thing for Lampard is to find the right balance at the center of the pitch. He has 6 very good wingers to choose from but midfield is where Everton have truly struggled this season.
