Should Thomas Tuchel replace Gareth Southgate as the England manager?

(Football news) It's been over a month since Thomas Tuchel was sacked from Chelsea. The decision came as a shock to the football world but the new Chelsea owners had their reasons. According to various reports, Tuchel didn't want to be involved in daily transfer talks and his communication with the board was not appropriate. The results had also started to suffer despite 9 new signings. The German was replaced by Graham Potter who according to the owners and the board was much more collaborative when it came to making club decisions. Tuchel is too good a manager to remain out of a job for a long time and it will be a big surprise if he is still unemployed by the start of the next season.

Latest reports in England claim that Tuchel has already rejected managerial offers from two Premier League clubs. It is also said that the German will be interested in taking the England job if Gareth Southgate doesn't stay after the World Cup. Southgate's current contract runs till December of 2024 which is a long way out. The England manager has said several times that the contract doesn't matter and if he fails to deliver at the World Cup then he will be on his way out. Southgate has recently faced a lot of scrutiny for holding the team back due to his lack of tactical acumen and overly defensive system.

Realistically, if England reach the semi finals then Southgate's job should be safe. However there is no comparison between the abilities of Tuchel and Southgate as the former Chelsea manager is clearly superior. This England team is capable of dominating against any other side in the world and Tuchel is the more likely to get the best out of them. From Tuchel's point of view, it might be a bit too early to take up a national team job as he could still manage to do a job for a top club. At the age of 49 he still has a lot of time to achieve more things at club level before going for international management.
