(Football news) After months of intense and difficult negotiations Ousmane Dembele has reportedly accepted all the clauses in Barcelona's renewal offer which will keep him at the club till 2024. He wanted to stay at the club and hence has agreed to lower his salary. Xavi was also keen on keeping the Frenchman at the Nou Camp. It is now upto Barcelona whether they want to go ahead with the renewal or not. Raphinha who just like Dembele plays on the right wing is linked with a move to Barcelona. Despite the long negotiations Barcelona may still choose to let Dembele leave for free.
Barcelona paid Borussia Dortmund a reported €105 million plus €40 million add-ons for Dembele's services. The Frenchman was supposed to replace Neymar Jr but he never managed to live up to the expectations. Constant injuries have been his biggest problem and Barcelona fans have rarely seen him at his full potential. Dembele returned to full fitness after a long time in November last year and started featuring regularly. The Blaugrana were quick to offer him a contract extension. President Joan Laporta publicly stated that Dembele is a better player than Kylian Mbappe according to him.
Ousmane Dembele rejected not one but multiple offers from Barcelona. It was reported that the Frenchman and his camp felt that the offer was not good enough. Barcelona finally gave up and asked the winger to look for a new club in the January transfer window. The Catalan club even left him out of the squad for a few games to try and force him out for some money in the winter rather than losing him for free in the summer. Dembele failed to secure a move away from the Camp Nou before the end of the transfer window and had to stay at Barcelona. Xavi started calling Dembele for games and he soon became an integral part of the team.
Dembele finished last season as the highest assist provider in La Liga with 13 assists despite playing just 21 matches. The only reason Barcelona might be reluctant to keep him at the club will be his injury history. Dembele showed in the 2nd half of last season that he is still a class act and could turn out to be the player Barcelona hoped he would become when they signed him way back in 2017. PSG and Chelsea are also interested in Dembele and he could turn back to them if Barcelona don't renew his deal.
