Nathan Ake all set for a return to Chelsea after 5 years away

(Football news) According to reports, Chelsea have agreed personal terms with Nathan Ake. Although there is no official bid yet, Manchester City want £40-45 million for the player. Chelsea are likely to negotiate with City in the coming weeks to lower the asking price for Ake who still has 3 years left on his current contract. Manchester City spent £41 million on the centre back 2 years ago and won't let him go for cheap. Ake will be keen on the move because he will get much more gametime at Chelsea. City have already sold Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal and are on the verge of selling Raheem Sterling to Chelsea.

Chelsea desperately need centre back signings in this window. They have already lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen for free while club captain Cesar Azpilicueta is also linked with a move away from the club. The blues are linked with quite a few centre backs including Matthijs de Ligt. Nathan Ake in his first spell at Chelsea couldn't break into the starting XI. He established himself at Bournemouth where he got regular game time. After switching to Manchester City his game time reduced once again but he did put in some crucial performances for them.

Ake's preferred position is at the heart of the defence but he can also play at left back.  He will slot in perfectly at left centre back in Thomas Tuchel's side. Ake came through the youth ranks of Chelsea and he has unfinished business at the club. His ability to read the game along with his passing range makes him a very good asset. One drawback to his game is that he gets beaten in the air very easily. Standing at just 5"11', heading isn't Ake's greatest strength which is why he can't play as a central centre-back. Chelsea are also interested in De Ligt who would fit in perfectly at that position.
