Newcastle United to rope in Liverpool’s sporting director in 2022

(Football news) Liverpool has announced that sporting director Michael Edwards will depart the club after 10 years and current deputy Julian Ward will take up Edwards' role when his contract runs out in 2022. The Englishman reportedly rejected many of FSG's renewal proposals in search of a new challenge.

There are multiple reports suggesting that Edwards is likely to join Newcastle United under their new ownership. The move will be perfect for the club who have just benefited from a massive Saudi takeover. The problems at Newcastle are so much deeper than the players in their first team as the whole structure of the club under Mike Ashley was run into the ground.

A figure like Edwards who has been at Liverpool since 2011 and has played a big part in getting the club back to the top will be a great asset to Newcastle. The director was responsible for bringing in the likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk, Allison and Sadio Mane. Edwards was also the mastermind behind Liverpool earning £57.5m from the sale of Jordon Ibe, Rhian Brewster and Dominic Solanke.

At this moment in time Newcastle are 19th on the table and Eddie Howe has been appointed as a new manager. The club from North East England definitely have money to spend but they do not need the lucrative big money signings just yet. There are a few players they need which will not make the headlines or make the fans go mad but will instead fill the gaps on the pitch. Eddie Howe is probably the best manager the club could've got after Unai Emery rejected their offer as he is a proven premier league manager who managed a club like Bournemouth where his goal was survival which is exactly what Newcastle need.

Newcastle is also the club with the worst training facility in the Premier League. Apart from Sean and Matty Longstaff, the Newcastle academy hasn't produced any significant talent. The problems at the back end of Newcastle are much more severe than the first team's performance who have at least managed to stay in the top flight. Michael Edwards might become one of the first of many changes the club desperately need to fulfill the ambitions their new owners have in mind and become a force to be reckoned with in the future.
