(Football news) Newcastle are close to signing the 20-year-old Brazilian after seeing a £17.5m bid earlier this month rejected by Championship club. Watford are under no pressure to sell as Joao Pedro still has three years remaining on his contract but the player is keen on joining the Magpies. Newcastle United have made a second bid for Watford's Joao Pedro and it appears that Watford will accept the new bid. The offer is believed to be in the region of £30m including add-ons as the talks are ongoing over structure of the payments and how achievable the add-ons are.
Newcastle made a bid on August 15 that the Hornets rejected, it was a £17.5m bid for the 20-year-old Brazilian who last season scored three goals and recorded one assist from 15 starts and 13 substitute appearances in the Premier League last season. Pedro has emerged as a key target for Eddie Howe and Newcastle in the last few days as Newcastle look to add some more depth as well as some firepower at the top of the field before the deadline passes. The Watford star is seen as one of the standout players in the Championship, with the Hornets having lost Emmanuel Dennis and seen Ismaila Sarr’s move to Aston Villa collapse as they look to find a solution for him.
Now it looks like the Hornets will keep Ismaila Sarr and sell Pedro this week, with the player apparently keen to see the two clubs conclude their business before the window slams shut. The young Brazilian was signed by Watford from Fluminense amid claims that he could be as good as Gabriel Jesus. He has been labelled as being an ‘unbelievable‘ talent but he hasn’t produced consistent performance at Vicarage Road. Eddie Howe believes that the 20 year old will flourish in a team which has experienced as well as some young players.
Newcastle are adding more money to the player in the hope that they can get the player from Watford as soon as possible. Joao Pedro is a player who, with better structure and players around him, can possibly thrive and fulfil his potential. He is certainly good enough for the Premier League and should have a good season in the Championship if he does stay at Watford. The fact of the matter is that he wants to leave the club and it looks like they might well get a deal over the line relatively quickly.
