(Football news) Manchester City are in talks with Brighton to sign their left back Marc Cucurella. The deal could cost around £30 million as the Spaniard still has 4 years left on his contract. Pep Guardiola has already approved the signing and is keen to bring the Spaniard to the club. City has already completed the signings of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez in this window and Cucurella is likely to be the 3rd signing of the summer.
Cucurella joined Brighton from Getafe in 2021. In his first season, the full back established himself as one of the most important players of Graham Potter's side. Cucurella was voted the player of the season and he also won the Players' Player of the Season. Brighton ended up finishing 9th on the Premier League table. Cucurella graduated from the La Masia academy but never got a chance to play for the Barcelona first team. Cucurella is someone who will run his legs out in each and every game. He is also an excellent attacking outlet who creates a lot of chances. He will fit perfectly into Pep Guardiola's system and at the age of 23 he is a good long term option.
Manchester City played the entirety of last season and even before that without a natural left back. Right back Joao Cancelo and midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko were the two left back options at the club. Cucurella gives Guardiola a proper left back option which will only improve this city side. The reigning Premier League champions will be looking to sell Zinchenko to make room for Cucurella as Everton are reportedly interested in the player. Fernandinho's departure is already confirmed while Gabriel Jesus is also on his way out. The signing of Haaland, Alvarez and Cucurella will make it a very successful transfer window for City.
