Kroos rejects Real Madrid’s new contract offer for an unusual reason

(Football news) Toni Kroos has only one year left in current Real Madrid deal. According to reports in Spain, Los Blancos wanted to start negotiations with the German who they consider an important part of their squad. Kroos however has rejected the approaches but it's not because he doesn't want to continue with the club. Kroos' reasoning has to do with his personal form and desire. Real Madrid respect his decision but have also made it clear that they want the midfielder to continue with the club after the next season ends.

Toni Kroos' last contract extension was in 2019 when he penned a 4 year deal until 2023. In a press conference, Kroos said that this will be his last long term extension with Real Madrid as he doesn't want to play for longer than his body can take. Kroos has always said that he will definitely retire at Real Madrid. The reason Kroos doesn't want to renew is because he wants to see if he can keep up with the level next season as the German doesn't want to sign a contract and be a burden for the club in the future.

Kroos is still going strong putting in big performances for Los Blancos. Along with Luka Modric and Casemiro, he is the spine of this Real Madrid side. The trio have been instrumental in Real Madrid's success over the last 6 years. Kroos however has shown little signs of slowing down. His level has dropped down a tad bit but it's just because of his high standards. Kroos with his level dropped down is still among the best midfielders in the world. The German has always said that he could retire in 2023 itself even though he will only be 33 years of age. He will determine whether he is upto the level in this next season.

Real Madrid have already taken the right steps in replacing their legendary trio of Kroos, Casemiro and Modric. Fede Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga were amazing last season as their deputies. Real Madrid splashed the cash to bring in Aurélien Tchouaméni. A midfield of Tchouaméni, Valverde and Camavinga in due time will be ready to take over. Real Madrid are reportedly keeping an eye of Jude Bellingham who is one of the best young midfielders in the world.
