Everton hijack the Amadou Onana from West Ham at the last minute

(Football news) Everton are going to sign Lille midfielder Amadou Onana after submitting a £33 million offer and are now also interested in a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers center back and captain Conor Coady. The deal for Onana, who was very close to joining West Ham United, has now chosen to play for Frank Lampard’s side. Along with Onana they also plans to recruit Idrissa Gana Gueye from Paris Saint-Germain three years after he left Goodison Park. Onana who is just 20 years old is a defensive midfielder who has played for the Belgium national team.

He was tracked by West Ham throughout the summer and manager David Moyes tabled a bid for the youngster worth an initial £29.2 million with a further £4.2 million in add ons. However, sources in France say that Everton have now matched Lille’s asking price following talks between both the clubs. He will make his move to Goodison Park after having chosen Everton over fellow Premier League side West Ham who had a similar agreement with the Ligue 1 outfit. The Belgian international is now waiting for the final go-ahead from Lille to fly to Liverpool in time to watch his teammates to take on Chelsea on the opening day of the new Premier League season.

The 20-year-old is now expected to sign a five-year deal with Everton just as he did with Lille last summer where he quickly forced himself into the playing XI. Everton have needed a defensive midfielder for a long time, ever since Idrissa Gana Gueye left them to join Paris Saint-Germain, and that position finally looks like that issue is going to be resolved. The Toffees are replacing Gueye with someone who is a very highly-rated player as he already towers over the vast majority of footballers, standing at six-foot, five-inches tall.

This kind of force should help Frank Lampard to stop them from conceding a lot of goals, at the very least while his lanky stature may also see him be able to bomb forward from time to time and hopefully physically dominate the opposition defenders instead. If things go quickly and smoothly, it might be that Onana could be revealed as an Everton player either at half-time or before Saturday’s game at home to Chelsea. He would have to be registered before midday on Friday to be able to play against Thomas Tuchel’s side which seems highly unlikely at this stage.
