(Football news) Manchester United have officially announced that Erik ten Hag will be their manager next season. The job by no means will be easy for the manager. There will definitely be a rebuild at Manchester United as Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard are all out of contract at the end of the season. All these players look to be on their way out which means there will be a lot of room for some fresh talent. Nemanja Matic has already announced that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season.
The big question is regarding the future of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese has one year left on his contract and it will be interesting to see what Ten Hag does with him. Ronaldo has scored 21 goals in all competitions this season. The talisman still gets a lot of criticism for his workrate and lack of pressing. Ten Hag could choose to build a team around him and get the best out of Cristiano Ronaldo. Even at the age of 37 the Portuguese continues to produce goals at crucial moments but the new manager may want to start fresh by getting in a young striker.
Donny Van de Beek who is currently on loan at Everton had a very successful period under Ten Hag at Ajax which is where the world took notice of him. Ten Hag could give the Dutch midfielder a lifeline at Old Trafford by getting him back to his best. The other job Ten Hag has to do is to get the best out of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane who don't seem to have settled at the club. He may also choose to sell a few players who aren't good enough to play for Manchester United.
Perhaps his biggest challenge is the Harry Maguire situation. The centre back is currently the captain of Manchester United. Maguire's form has been declining rapidly since the start of the season. Ten Hag might strip him off the captaincy so that he can concentrate on his own game. He could also keep things as they are and just try and change the players mentality. The other option would be to sell him which doesn't look likely. Amidst all this the new manager will also have to look at the recruitment side of things which definitely needs to be better. There are rumours that he might bring Antony from Ajax. It will take Erik ten Hag a long time to make Manchester United into title challengers but he has to improve them almost immediately to get the fans on his side.
