(Football news) Chelsea FC have sacked German manager Thomas Tuchel after just six games into the new Premier League season. The Blues have been heavily linked to Brighton manager Graham Potter as well as Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane. The club is under new management after Roman Abramovich sold his prized asset to Todd Boehly’s consortium. Since the takeover three months ago, Boehly has been operating as an interim sporting director after the departure of former director Marina Granovskaia, chairman Bruce Buck and technical and performance advisor Petr Cech.

Chelsea invested a record £273m in the summer transfer window, bringing in Wesley Fofana, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucarella and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. However, the club has experienced a string of disappointing results in the season so far, prompting concerns from the new management about Tuchel’s suitability to lead the team going forward with Chelsea languishing in sixth place with 10 points. A statement released by the club read “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the club. Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea's history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.

"As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition. Chelsea's coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach." The German was appointed on 26 January, 2021 as a replacement for Frank Lampard and has had a very successful spell at Chelsea, winning the Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup. It seems like a surprising decision therefore, to not give Tuchel more time, considering that he was heavily backed in the summer and the club is only six games into the new season with the integration of new signings in such a short duration being an impossible task. Time will tell if the decision to sack Tuchel will pay dividends for Chelsea but it’s a controversial one at the very least.
