Liverpool had been locked in talks with the Scottish club for quite some time after Jurgen Klopp's side made an initial £4m offer, with £2m in add-ons. However, it is understood that Aberdeen were holding firm for at least £5m up-front, with £5m in add-ons. The £6.5m fee was agreed for Ramsay as he will become Aberdeen's record sale, surpassing their current record of £3m when they sold Scott McKenna to Nottingham Forest. The Dons have also received an extra £1m for the centre-back after Forest were promoted to the Premier League.
Ramsay is set to become Liverpool's third signing tof summer after the arrivals of Darwin Nunez for a club-record £85m deal and Fabio Carvalho, who they signed from Fulham.
It was revealed that Ramsay's preferred choice was to join Liverpool, out of a number who showed interest in him as clubs from England, Germany and Italy, all scouted him. Last season he registered six assists and scored one goal for Aberdeen. He also had the highest expected assist average rate for any player across the whole Aberdeen squad which was 0.2 per 90 same compared to Alexander-Arnold who also topped the metric chart at Liverpool last season.
Both players have benefits of taking set-pieces, Ramsay at a young age is trusted with set piece duty so early into his career, giving us an indication how threatening his deliveries are. Although he can deliver dangerous swinging balls into the box he is not yet at Alexander-Arnold’s level as the club hierarchy believe that Ramsay will learn a lot from Trent at the same position. Calvin Ramsay has strong ball carrying ability which can help Jurgen Klopp’s side in quick counter attacks. He is a signing for the future and certainly to keep an eye on his development at Liverpool.
