(Football news) Hull City forward Keane Lewis-Potter is close to completing a move to the Premier League with Brentford on a six-year deal. Lewis-Potter who is 21 years old was given permission to discuss personal terms with Brentford before undergoing a medical and the finishing touches are remaining for the transfer to be done. The 21-year-old was a target in last summer’s transfer window and in January as they were a subject of failed bids but he is now set to complete a move to west London on a long-term contract.
The initial fee is going to be £16 million with the potential for another £4 million in add-ons. That would mean that Lewis-Potter will become Brentford’s new club-record signing, eclipsing the £14 million they paid for Aaron Hickey last week. Lewis-Potter played in the first half of Hull’s 2-0 defeat at Fenerbahce in Turkey on preseason tour. The forward is a product of Hull’s academy and has attracted a lot of attention after a productive season in the Championship where Lewis-Potter managed to score 13 goals in all competitions and was given his first call-up to the England’s under-21s. He went on to score his first goal for Lee Carsley’s side in a 5-0 win over Kosovo earlier last month. Lewis-Potter will become Brentford’s third summer signing behind Hickey and Thomas Strakosha
Albanian goalkeeper Strakosha is also undergoing a medical at the club after leaving Lazio this summer for free, he was previously close to a move to west London with Fulham and recently linked to Manchester United. Brentford have been trying to tie down goalkeeper David Raya to a longer-term deal but they still have yet to agree terms. His current contract will expire in 2024 as the Albanian’s agents discussed a potential move this summer. Now, it appears that Brentford are close to completing a free transfer, with Chelsea, Leicester City and Forest also being linked with the shot-stopper. The 27-year-old was a regular for Lazio last season, having made 31 appearances for them.
He kept 11 clean sheets across all competitions while also conceding only 36 times in the Serie A last season, which is pretty good for someone who would more and less be a backup. More importantly, the signing of the former Serie A keeper would not dent Brentford’s transfer budget, which means that we can still pursue our other targets. In any case, the transfer is yet to be finalised, other competitors might just hijack the deal in the mix right now like Leicester for example, could use a goalkeeper with Kasper Schmeichel nearing the twilight of his playing career.
