(Football news) Real Madrid on Thursday defeated Levante 6-0. The match was just a formality as Los Blancos had already secured the La Liga title but it meant a lot to Karim Benzema. The Frenchman netted the 3rd goal of the evening which was his 323rd goal for Real Madrid. Benzema is now levelled with club legend Raul as the 2nd top goalscorer in Real Madrid history as only Cristiano Ronaldo has more with 450 goals.

Benzema has achieved the feat in 141 games less than Raul. It has been an incredible season for the Frenchman who now has 46 goals and 14 assists in all competitions. He has already won the La Liga, Spanish Super Cup, the UEFA Nations and is also in the UCL final. He is virtually guaranteed to finish as the top scorer of La Liga, UCL and is also the top scorer of Europe. Karim Benzema is an undisputed front runner for all the individual awards this season including the Ballon d'or, Fifa The Best and UEFA player of the year.

Benzema's partnership with Vinicius Jr has single handedly won matches for Real Madrid this season. The Frenchman is right up there with the greatest players to wear the royal white jersey of Real Madrid. Benzema may have been Real Madrid's first choice striker for over a decade but it is only now that he is getting the appreciation and recognition that he truly deserves. He will undoubtedly be the key man for Real Madrid in the UCL final against Liverpool and was the player who opened the scoring when the two teams met in the 2018 final.

Benzema is 127 goals behind Cristiano Ronaldo in the Real Madrid scoring charts. At the age of 34 and the kind of form he is in, the Frenchman can break Ronaldo's record to become the highest scorer in Real Madrid's history. It will definitely be a tough task but Benzema's fitness levels have massively improved which will help him prolongate his Real Madrid career. That is the one aspect of improvement which doesn't get talked about enough. Benzema was never a 90 minutes player before 2018 but has worked on his fitness to make him play 90 minutes week in week out.
