(Football news) Bayern Munich and Barcelona over the years have been a part of so many iconic UCL fixtures and moments. At the beginning of the last decade, Bayern Munich established a 7-0 aggregate win in the 2012/13 UCL semi final. Barcelona got their revenge as they defeated Bayern Munich 5-3 on aggregate in the 2014/15 UCL semi final. In the recent past however the fixture has been dominated by Bayern Munich. The two clubs met in the 2019/20 UCL quarter finals which was a one off match. Bayern Munich won the match 8-2 which was one of the most embarrassing defeats in Barcelona history. After the defeat Lionel Messi put in a transfer request which eventually didn't go through but it caused the then Barcelona board to resign.
In 2021/22 the two clubs were pitted in the same group. Bayern Munich won 3-0 at the Camp Nou and at the Allianz Arena. Barcelona were knocked out of the UCL in the group stages itself. It was the first time Barcelona had failed to get past the group stages since 2000/01. The Blaugrana had to play in the Europa League where they were knocked out by Eintracht Frankfurt which was yet another embarrassment. This time around Barcelona have stolen one of Bayern's weapons as Robert Lewandowski is on their side. Just a couple of months after forcing his way out of Bayern Munich, the Polish striker will be playing against his former club.
Barcelona have had a decent start to their season with 5 wins and 1 draw. Bayern Munich on the other hand have 6 wins and 3 draws so far this season. Xavi will have his full squad available including Sergi Roberto who was a doubt. Bayern Munich will be missing Kingsley Coman and Bouna Sarr. The German champions have had the better of Barcelona recently but Barcelona are a much better team this time around. Julian Nagelsmann's team is definitely not weaker than before and they will be very difficult to beat especially at the Allianz Arena.
