Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo’s steep development at Real Madrid

(Football news) Real Madrid for the past 2 seasons or so have found it very difficult to cope without Karim Benzema. The Frenchman is one of the best players in the world and the dependence on him is natural. The problem was the over dependence because Real Madrid couldn't win a single game without him. This season it has been a little different as Benzema has had a slow start. Despite getting 4 goals and 1 assist in 5 games this season, his impact hasn't been as great as it was last season. Real Madrid have still managed to hold their own and win every single game. Benzema injured himself early on in the game against Celtic but Real Madrid still won the game 3-0. The Merengues on Sunday defeated Mallorca 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu. It was Madrid's 7th win in 7 games this season as they look to match or better their last season's achievements. Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr. played some wonderful football as they guided Real Madrid to victory. Rodrygo got 1 goal and an assist while Vinicius was named player of the match for his goal.

The main reason for Madrid's ability to cope without Benzema is the brilliance of Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr. The latter had a breakthrough season last year and earned himself a Ballon D'or nomination. Rodrygo on the other hand was good in patches but then really exploded towards the end of the season. This season both Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr have had incredible starts. Vinicius has scored in 5 consecutive games and also has 2 assists while Rodrygo has 2 goals and 2 assists despite playing just 235 minutes. They both prefer to play on the left wing but Rodrygo has done well on the right and through the center as well.

Real Madrid paid around €46 for both the players when they were just 18 years old, playing in the Brazilian league. Los Blancos got a lot of criticism with people claiming that they had overpaid and inflated the market. The criticism has disappeared as Real Madrid have definitely got their money's worth already. The pair are considered untouchable by Real Madrid but if they had to sell them they would each easily be worth way over €100m. The most exciting thing for Real Madrid fans is that they still have a lot of room for improvement and it is scary how good the pair would be once they hit their prime.

Real Madrid missed out on two of the best young prospects in the world i.e Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland for various different reasons. Real Madrid have their two very own wonderkids who have been nurtured and trusted by the club. Along with others like Fede Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni, Real Madrid have a great bunch of world class youngsters. Veterans like Dani Carvajal, Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, David Alaba and Toni Kroos are also going strong. It is widely reported in Spain that after 3 very quiet transfer windows Real Madrid will go big next summer to bring in even more quality players.
