(Football news) After securing Pedri on a long term contract, Barca acted quickly and signed Ansu Fati until 2027. Just like Pedri, his release clause will be 1 billion euros as Barcelona are trying to create a new ethos by handing out long term contracts to their young stars in the team.
The 18 year old took the world by storm when in 2019 aged 16 he made his first team debut for Barcelona against Real Betis, since then the forward has broken a series of records. He became the youngest ever Barcelona player to score in the La Liga, score at Camp Nou and play in the Champions League. Fati also edged himself in Champions League history when he scored against Inter aged just 17, breaking the previous record which had stood since 1997. After the departure of Lionel Messi in the summer, he was handed the iconic number 10 shirt which proves how much the Barca board rate him. At the tender age of 18 he already has conjured up 47 appearances scoring 15 goals.
Ansu’s previous deal was set to expire at the end of the season and his agent Jorge Mendes had already got calls from the biggest clubs in the world but the La Masia product since 2012 wanted to stay and become one of the main stays in the team. With this new contract he will earn a staggering salary which will increase as the season progresses. Although the road for Fati hasn’t been easy considering he was sidelined with a knee injury for 10 months, he recently came off the bench to score against Levante to show the world why he’s one of the hottest young prospects in the world.
Ever since losing Messi for free this summer, the Barca board have offered long term contracts to their young players as they believe that these players will be key for their so-called rebuild. After securing Fati and Pedri on long term contracts, the Barca board will now focus on offering their new protege Gavi and Araujo new contracts as they want to protect these players at all cost. The new Barca model seems to be putting faith in their La Masia products as they want to find a new set of players who can replicate the legends like Iniesta and Xavi.
