Pedri set to sign a new contract with Barcelona until 2026

(Football news) The catalan club ensured that they secured their future by offering Pedri a multi year contract keeping him at the club till 2026, Barca are going to include a crazy release clause of 1 billion euros to keep him away from all the big European clubs. Having joined from Las Palmas in 2020, Pedri has become an integral squad member and touted to be the next Barcelona youngster to take the world by storm.

The 18 year old Spain international is going to accept the new contract that will subsequently increase his wages and put him at par with the senior Barcelona players. Despite his breakout season, Pedri was one of the lowest paid players in the squad but after a successful Euros and Olympics, the Barcelona hierarchy were bound to offer him a new contract. Barca have decided to include a huge release clause which is touted as an anti – sheikh move as the financial powerhouse tend to raid talents from cash crunched teams. If any team is interested in him they will have to pay a world record transfer fee to land him.

Pedri has often been touted as the heir to Xavi and Iniesta, being only 18, he already has 10 caps for Spain and played 40 games for Barcelona last season. Once the deal is finalised, Barca are going to extend the contracts of Ansu Fati, Ronaldo Araujo and Gavi as the club President Joan Laporta is eager to tie down their future of these youngsters to avoid a similar situation like Messi. For Barcelona, they are in a rebuilding phase and these young players can help them restructure the club and help them return to their glory days.

Club President Joan Laporta said, “Pedri is a great player, a great talent who reminds us of players we have had. He has the humility and temperance that a Barça player should have."

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, an agreement is in place between the club and the player over an extension until June 2026, with the various clauses involved 'agreed and fixed' and an announcement expected in due course.
