3 things Xavi has to fix immediately to succeed at Barcelona

(Football news) After a troubled start to the season, Barcelona fans have a new ray of hope in the form of their new manager Xavi. It is always exciting for a fan base when a legendary player comes back to the club as a manager, the only issue is that it doesn't always work out.

Here are 3 things Xavi has to fix immediately at Barcelona:

3) Defensive woes

In the 16 games so far this season, the Blaugrana have conceded 21 goals this season and their defence has been all over the place. Gerrard Pique and Jordi Alba are the only two players who are guaranteed starters. Ronald Araujo, Eric Garcia, Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti are the other center back options while Sergino Dest and Sergi Roberto compete for the right back position. Oscar Mingueza is a player who can slot into both the positions. Injuries to both Pique and Alba haven't done Barcelona any good as the Catalan side have looked defensively naive and have conceded way too many goals from individual errors. Xavi has to find a solution to get the side defending as a team. He also needs to have a nailed on first choice back four that can get used to playing together. Marc Andre Ter Stegan has been a shadow of a player he used to be making loads of mistakes and letting in goals from his near post.

2) Injury crisis

11 Barcelona players have suffered injuries so far this season. With Xavi having a completely new team on board the player's workload needs to be managed better. The likes of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba are 33 and 32 respectively but are still playing international football which is a big concern. Sergio Aguero is out for 3 months and there is a doubt whether he will be able to play football ever again. Ousmane Dembélé has rarely played any games in the past two years. Pedri has been run into to the ground with the amount of games he played last season and he is facing the effects of it now.

1) Attacking positioning

Barcelona have 4 strikers in Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay, Martin Braithwaite and Luuk De Jong. Depay and Braithwaite are comfortable playing on the left which is Ansu Fati's preferred position. With Ousmane Dembélé injured and Yusuf Demir not showing enough quality the right hand side is a very big concern. Koeman did play Sergino Dest on the wing on quite a few occasions but he will need to slot at right back. Xavi needs to figure out what his best attacking trio or duo is when everyone is fit.
