(Hockey News) In a thrilling clash at the FIH Hockey Pro League in Eindhoven, Argentina’s women’s team emerged victorious with a narrow 2-1 win over China. The match saw China dominate the first half in terms of possession and territory, but both teams struggled to create significant scoring opportunities. However, Argentina stepped up their game in the third quarter, displaying better ball control and teamwork. Their efforts paid off when Victoria Sauze struck the ball from the 25-yard line, and Delfina Thome’s slight touch deflected it into the goal, giving Argentina a 1-0 lead.

China fought back in the fourth period, with Zhang Xiaoxue finding the net after a rebound to equalize the score. However, with just one minute remaining in the match, Argentina secured a crucial penalty corner. Taking advantage of China’s depleted defense due to a yellow card, Valentina Raposo skillfully placed the ball into the bottom left corner, securing a last-minute 2-1 victory for Argentina in the FIH Hockey Pro League. Maria Granatto was named player of the match, expressing her happiness at the hard-fought win against a tough opponent like China.

In the men’s match between the Netherlands and Australia, the Australian team produced a sensational performance, overpowering the home side with a commanding 7-2 victory in the FIH Hockey Pro League. The Kookaburras quickly took the lead when Tom Craig capitalized on a well-placed through-ball from Eddie Ockenden. Just seconds before the end of the first quarter, Daniel Beale set up Lachlan Sharp to score, doubling Australia’s lead. The second quarter saw Nathan Ephraums extend Australia’s advantage with a goal from a quick free hit just outside the circle. Craig then added his second of the night shortly after, displaying excellent teamwork.

Australia’s dominance continued into the third quarter, with Jeremy Hayward converting a penalty corner to further deepen the Netherlands’ woes. The Dutch managed to find the back of the net through Miles Bukkens, reducing the deficit to four goals just before halftime. However, Australia swiftly resumed their scoring spree in the third quarter, with Blake Govers capitalizing on a rebound to add to the scoreline. Ephraums completed his brace in the fourth quarter, courtesy of an assist from Beale, taking Australia’s tally to seven goals. Bukkens scored another goal for the Netherlands from a penalty corner, but it was not enough to dampen Australia’s emphatic 7-2 victory.

Tom Craig was named player of the match, emphasizing the team’s efficiency in front of the goal and strong defensive efforts. He also highlighted the positive energy on the field, fueled by the European summer and enthusiastic crowds supporting both teams.
