(Football news) Football governing body FIFA have received four bids for the hosting rights of the 2027 Women’s World Cup. Brazil and South Africa have already submitted their bids while Belgium, Netherlands and Germany have expressed interest in a joint bid. The United States and Mexico have also put in a combined bid to stage the tournament, which will be held just one year after the 2026 Men’s World Cup in those two countries. The bids have to be submitted by 19th May and the hosts will be chosen by the FIFA Congress via public voting on 17th May 2024.

FIFA secretary general Fatma Samoura said “We are thrilled by the expressions of interest received, not least because they come from member associations with a strong football tradition representing four confederations. All member associations can rely on the most robust and comprehensive bidding process in the history of the Fifa Women’s World Cup.” Reigning champions USA have hosted the tournament in 1999 and 2003 but have never done so as joint bidders while Germany hosted the tournament in 2011.

The 2023 Women’s World Cup will take place in Australia and New Zealand between 20th July and 20th August. It will be interesting to see if FIFA awards USA and Mexico the rights for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, particularly because all the facilities and infrastructure will already be in place as the two countries along with Canada will host the men’s World Cup in 2026.
