According to a press release by Extreme E, the pioneering electric off-road racing championship has announced Belgium’s RTBF as the newest inductee to its broadcasting list. The series will join the thrilling roster of motorsport action, including Formula One already available on the RTBF’s linear channel along with its digital platform.
The French Community of Belgium public broadcasting organisation is the Radio Télévision Belge Francophone (RTBF). RTBF operates four television channels – La Une, Tipik, La Trois and Arte Belgique – alongside several radio channels, La Première, RTBF International, VivaCité, Musiq’3, Classic 21 and Tipik Radio.
Extreme E has already confirmed some of the biggest motor sporting icons including Formula One World Champions Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and Jenson Button. All of them have founded teams like X44, Rosberg Xtreme Racing and JBXE respectively.
Besides all the motorsports excitement from live racing action, Extreme E’s magazine shows will highlight the environmental efforts of the championship which will be aired on RTBF.
Ali Russell, Chief Marketing Officer at Extreme E said: “We are delighted to have added Belgium to our broadcast reach, and we are confident that Extreme E will fit perfectly within the plethora of exciting sports already aired by RTBF.”
Manu Van der Brempt, Motorsport Line Producer at RTBF, said: “RTBF is very involved in the challenges of the future, audiovisual evolution as well as environmental matters. Moreover, most Belgians appreciate creativity and that’s a major part of Extreme E’s proposition: thoughtful innovation – an initiative to commend from my point of view.”
Following the inaugural race in Saudi Arabia from 3 – 4 April, the series will proceed to Senegal from 29 – 30 May, Greenland during 28 – 29 August, Brazil from 23 – 24 October and Patagonia from 11 – 12 December.
As races will be held without spectators, the series will feature a different viewing format and will be broadcasted as two-hour programs in an effort to minimize the championship’s carbon footprint.
