(Motorsports news) Sport for purpose racing series Extreme E has positioned joint-third in this year’s Sustainable Championships Index™ (SChI™), which reveals the latest results in motorsport’s race for sustainability.

In the third edition of the report, the series was ranked as a clear leader in the race for sustainability in motorsport alongside ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, Formula One and MotoGP.

The SChI™ provides a yearly review of the environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance of motorsport championships around the world. This edition includes the scores of 106 two- and four-wheel championships, with each series assessed using 25 sustainability performance criteria across six areas including: certifications, accreditations and awards, environmental performance, social performance, engagement and partnerships and sustainability approach.

The championships’ sustainability performances are then categorised in five tiers: high, medium-high, medium, medium-low and low.

Extreme E has been recognised as one of the top performers in the 2024 SChI™, as the championship continues to showcase electric SUVs and futuristic technologies in some of the world’s most remote and challenging environments.

The championship was commended for its credibility in environmental reporting to offset emissions and claim carbon neutrality.

Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme E, said: “It is great for Extreme E to be recognised as a leader in sustainable motorsport by SChI™.

“Environmental responsibility within motorsport is now ever crucial, and as a series we will keep pushing the boundaries to deliver an exciting racing product, while still conscious of our sustainability efforts and raising awareness of the climate crisis.”
