(Football news) Brentford was thrashed 4-1 by Gary O’Neil’s team on Wednesday night, while the Toffees lost 3-1 to Manchester City, the current holders, after the former could not hold onto a slim lead.

Nathan Collins, a defender for Brentford, put on an awful one-man show on Wednesday night, helping the visitors score two of their four goals. This came three days after Wolves exposed Chelsea’s defensive shortcomings in a 2-1 victory on Christmas Eve.

A merciless Wolves team was further indebted to another Hwang strike and an early Mario Lemina header in a capital crushing. Collins also squandered a fantastic opportunity to cut the deficit with a close-range header. Hwang Hee-chan and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde both profited from misplaced passes from Collins.

O’Neil wanted to emphasize Wolves’ clinical play despite the fact that they were given two goals on a plate. On a night when the West Midlands team shot up to 11th place in the Premier League, level on points with both Chelsea and Bournemouth, despite having played one more game than the latter.

Success at the Gtech Community Stadium also saw Wolves win three straight Premier League games, a first for the team this season. However, the hosts have not won three straight top-flight games since Bruno Lage’s days in January 2022, and they have lost their last four games to close out the year without a point.

Wolves haven’t performed well at the end of the year since defeating Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 in 2018, but O’Neil’s current group of players has a great chance to break that streak at Molineux, where they have won their past seven Premier League games.

However, Everton has now lost their last four games, even though they started the month with a commendable four-game winning streak. They did have a brief lead against Manchester City when Jack Harrison scored a goal against his former team.
