(Cricket News) England has revealed their playing XI for the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford, and James Anderson will be taking the place of Ollie Robinson. The announcement was made by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in a statement. Anderson, a seamer from Lancashire, will replace Robinson, a seamer from Sussex, who was part of the team that secured a victory over Australia in the third Test at Headingley.
Despite sustaining an injury during the third match, Robinson had expressed his availability for the fourth Ashes Test earlier this week.
After bowling just 11.2 overs at Headingley, Ollie Robinson suffered a back spasm, which prevented him from bowling further. Although he had a brief appearance with the bat and participated in the field during Australia’s second innings, he was unable to continue bowling.
In a display of confidence, England has decided to retain wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow for the fourth Ashes Test. Bairstow’s performance behind the stumps has been subpar, as he has missed eight chances of varying difficulty across the first three matches. He has only had one notable batting contribution, scoring a run-a-ball 78 on the opening day of the series. Since then, he has accumulated a combined total of 63 runs.
With Australia leading the series 2-1, England now faces the crucial task of winning both of the remaining tests if they aim to reclaim the coveted urn.
