England women score 10 goals past Latvia as Ella Toone gets a hat-trick

(Football news) Having already defeated Luxembourg by 10 goals and scoring 8 past North Macedonia, the Latvia Women’s team were the latest victims to incur the Three Lions’ wrath in the World Cup qualifier. Ella Toone could not have hoped for a better start, scoring her first goal past Vaivode after Lauren Hemp’s ball was not dealt with by the Latvian defense. Toone scored again four minutes later after being unmarked and able to take a free shot to double England’s lead.

Ellen White scored the third goal in the 25th minute when Latvia’s goalkeeper Vaivode’s goal kick was intercepted by Toone who passed the ball to White and the 32 year old found the back of the net. Millie Bright continued her fine goalscoring form that has seen the 28 year old score three goals in three games after scoring England’s fourth seven minutes later. A freekick by her Chelsea teammate Fran Kirby found Bright who capitalized on the opportunity to find the back of the net.

England women could have easily scored more goals before the end of the first half as Millie Bright’s penalty was saved by Latvia’s goalkeeper Vaivode who also saved the rebound effort by Mead. Ellen White was also unlucky to not hit the back of the net when her headed effort reached the topside of the crossbar. England’s manager Sarina Wiegman made four changes at half-time and the second half started in almost identical fashion to the first with Vaivode denying Toone and Beth England while Nikita Parris failed to hit the target.

A fantastic weighted pass by Stanway in the 55th minute found it’s target Mead who found the far corner after beating Latvia’s captain Sandra Voitane to score England’s fifth goal. Ella Toone completed her hat-trick in the 68th minute in a build up similar to Mead’s goal to score England’s sixth. To add to Latvia’s humiliation, Rachel Daly scored England’s seventh goal soon after and her first of the game from a close range finish.

The remaining three goals happened in quick succession as Williamson scored England’s eighth with a low effort past Latvia’s goalkeeper Voivade. Stanway then scored the ninth goal with an assist from Parris and less than a minute later, Daly scored her second of the match as the full back scored from an open net to register the tenth goal of the match.
