(Cricket news) It was a must-win game for England women at the Oval as Australia already had 6 points in the bag. Alyssa Healy won the toss for the third time in the series and put England into bat first. The home side managed to put on a formidable total of 186 on board. The innings was anchored by opener Danni Wyatt who scored 76 off just 46 balls. She played some incredible strokes especially through the cover point region hitting 13 fours in total. Sophia Dunkley and Natalie Sciver-Brunt played useful cameos at the top of the order. Sophie Ecclestone applied a nice finishing touch as she scored 22 off 12 balls batting at number 8.

As for Australia, Annabel Sutherland was the pick of the bowlers as she picked up 3 wickets. The experienced Megan Schutt had a day to forget as she conceded 41 runs in 3 overs out of which 25 runs were in one over itself. Chasing the total, Alyssa Healy got off to a rapid start scoring 37 off 19 balls. However she was dismissed by Sarah Glenn after which Australia kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Ellyse Perry tried her best with a 27 ball 51 including 5 boundaries and a maximum but it wasn’t enough

England had to win the second T20 or else Australia would’ve sealed the tour after just one Test and two T20s. That is exactly what England did with a clinical performance. It is still in Australia’s hands as they have 6 points and England only have 2. However the victory will be a massive boost in confidence and England will fancy their chances. The third and final T20 is at the iconic Lord’s Stadium in London where England have to win once again to have a chance of winning the Ashes.
