England

(Cricket news) England came into this Test with desperation to save the series. They dropped the experienced James Anderson and their best bowler of the last Test Josh Tongue while also losing Ollie Pope to injury. Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, and Moeen Ali came into the line-up and all three of them played well in this match. The match was once again a thriller but this time around England managed to edge it. Australia will count themselves unlucky as just like the last two Tests conditions massively favored England. The important thing is that the series is still alive ahead of the 4th Test at Old Trafford.

Mark Wood was named player of the match for his impactful performance with both bat and ball. In the first innings he was bowling absolute rockets which the Aussies couldn’t deal with. Wood got the wickets of Usman Khawaja, Alex Carey, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Todd Murphy while having an economy of just 2.91. In the 2nd innings, he again got rid of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc with his searing pace. He also contributed 40 important runs with the willow across both innings to help England get over the line. Chris Woakes Woakes also had a great match as he took 6 wickets and scored 56 runs.

Ben Stokes’ 80 in the first innings ended up being very important in the context of the game. He did it despite struggling with an injury which made it even more impressive. Going into the 4th Test match Australia have a very key selection call to make. Mitchell Marsh had an incredible game but if Cameron Green is fit then it will be difficult to leave him out. Josh Hazelwood and Scott Bolland have played 2 matches each and both have been below par. Australia may look at Michael Neser as a third pacer.
