England cruise past Andorra as Denmark almost become the first team to qualify for the World Cup

(Football news) With the European World cup qualifiers in full flow, Denmark could have become the first team to qualify had Scotland drawn with Israel but Scott McTominay scored a very late goal to win the match. England and Germany both consolidated their top position in the group and can also qualify for next year's biggest spectacle by winning their fixtures this week.

England breezed past Andorra as they ran out 5-0 winners, Gareth Southgate made a lot of changes to the side as he gave starts to Tammy Abraham, James Ward Prowse and Sam Johnstone. In the first half the Three Lions scored the first goal through Ben Chilwell and then doubled the lead 5 minutes before halftime as Saka fired the ball into the roof of the net. The story of the second half was similar as goals from Abraham, Ward Prowse and Grealish sealed off a complete performance from them. With this result England are on 19 points, 4 points ahead of Albania and Poland in Group I.

Germany made tough work of Romania as they won 2-1 against them, Hansi Flick started with a very strong lineup, they were shocked in the first 10 minutes as Hagi opened the scoring. In the first half Germany were not playing at their ruthless best as in the second half Serge Gnabry restored some parity by scoring in the 54 minute before the ever present Thomas Muller won the game with 10 minutes remaining to the full time whistle. With this result Germany go to 18 points opening a 6 point lead over North Macedonia and Armenia in Group J

Turkey drew 1-1 to Norway as both sides missed out on the opportunity to close the gap to Netherlands. Norway were without Erling Haaland as they clearly missed him, Turkey in the first half scored in the first 5 minutes to pile on more misery on the Norwegians, but Norway bounced back with a goal 5 minutes from the first half end as cross from Olsen was met by Kristian Thorstvedt. With this result Norway stayed second with 14 points as Turkey remained 3rd with 12 points in Group G.

Netherlands narrowly won against Latvia 1-0, Louis Van Gaal’s side looked a little light going up front but their defence remained very strong throughout the game. The deadlock was broken by Davy Klaasen after heading in Memphis Depay’s corner kick, this was his fourth goal since Van Gaal took charge along with that he has provided three assists also. With this result the Dutch sit comfortably on top of Group G with 16 points from 7 matches.
