Ecclestone and Wyatt lead England to 2nd consecutive Women’s CWC final

(Cricket news) England booked their place in the 2022 Women's World Cup final with a 137 run win over South Africa and will now face arch rivals Australia in the final. Both the semi finals were kind of one sided which doesn't reflect how nail biting the tournament has been. Neutral fans will be hoping to see a close match in the finals.

Having been put into bat, England did a very good job by scoring 293/8. Danni Wyatt anchored the innings with her incredible 129 off 125 balls. Opening the batting, she kept her composure and played some exquisite strokes even though wickets kept falling at the other end. Wyatt also had a lot of good fortune as she was dropped on 36 by Marizanne Kapp and on 77 by Lara Goodall and on 116 by Shabnim Ismail. She was supported by Sophia Dunkly 60 off 72 balls. Sophie Ecclestone played a quickfire 24 lower down the order to help England reach 293 runs.

South Africa never looked up for the challenge. Anya Shrubsole dismissed both the openers cheaply before Lara Goodall and Sune Luus steadied things a little. Charlie Dean and Kate Cross joined the action and dismissed them. From then on it was the Sophie Ecclestone show. The world number 1 bowler and the highest wicket taker of the tournament spun webs all over the Proteas as she picked the final 6 wickets to take England into the semifinals. She continued her great form and kept it simple to get the breakthroughs in quick succession. South Africa lacked an anchor who would hold one end and keep the scoreboard ticking. That doesn't change the fact that the target was too big in the first place.
