Dortmund youngsters help get a hard fought victory over SC Freiburg

(Football news) Borussia Dortmund had to come from behind to score three times in 11 minutes late in the second half through their substitutes and beat hosts Freiburg 3-1 in the Bundesliga on late night kick off on Friday. England youth international Jamie Bynoe-Gittens grabbed a 77th minute equaliser after a goalkeeping howler before he weaved past three players to help Youssoufa Moukoko bag another in the 84th as Marius Wolf sealed a difficult win in the 88th.

Dortmund started the match with new striker Anthony Modeste who signed during the week as an emergency replacement for Sebastien Haller, who is subsequently being treated for a malignant tumour. The hosts scored the first goal against the run of play as Dortmund were enjoying the share fair of possession but  Michael Gregoritsch's looping header for his second goal of the campaign gave Freiburg the lead. Dortmund lacked precision and Freiburg grew into the game and had the better chances after the break with Gregoritsch firing over the bar after again being left unmarked.

Dortmund launched their comeback after they were gifted an unexpected equaliser thanks to a howler by Mark Flekken who tried to block a 25-metre shot from teenager Bynoe-Gittens but the keeper let the ball slip through his hands and into his own net. Bynoe-Gittens should have done better in the 83rd when he was one on one with the keeper but failed to get his shot on target, but he made amends with a superb run to assist Moukoko who made it 2-1 in the next minute. Half-time substitute Wolf then put the final nail in the coffin when he made sure of the points and Dortmund's second win in their two matches in the league.

"There is a lot of room for improvement for us," said Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck, who joined from Freiburg this season. "We need to defend as a team. We could have conceded two or three goals. We started well and then we were 1-0 behind and Freiburg were at that stage playing much better than us. Then came [Freiburg keeper] Mark Flekken's mistake, we scored two more and the game was decided."
