(Football news) A brilliant moment of improvisation from Julian Brandt helped earn Borussia Dortmund a 1-0 win over TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday which subsequently sent Edin Terzic’s side level on points with Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga standings. Brandt scored in the 43rd minute after he was fouled as Marco Reus delivered an inch perfect ball in the resulting free kick as Brandt ducked under the ball at the near post and let it bounce off his back and past Oliver Baumann in the Hoffenheim goal.
Dortmund full-back Marius Wolf thought he had a great opportunity to double the lead in the 56th minute when he powered an unstoppable shot past Baumann, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR check for a foul on Ihlas Bebou in the build-up play. Dortmund’s eighth league win in a row helped them move on to 46 points, level on points with Bayern Munich and three clear of third-placed Union Berlin, who play each other on Sunday.
Struggling Hoffenheim on the other hand who brought in Pellegrino Matarazzo as manager earlier this month after sacking Andre Breitenreiter, are 16th in the table on 19 points, in the relegation play-off place, after fifth league defeats in a row. Dortmund were not at their dominant best but still got their 10th win in a row as they haven’t lost a match this year. The only negative for Edin Terzic is that their young German prodigy Karim Adeyami will be injured for quite some time as Dortmund face Union Berlin next before going to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea
