Highest ranking Carlos Alcaraz faces third-seeded Novak Djokovic in a thrilling French Open semifinal
Djokovic

(Tennis news) No. 1 in the worldCarlos Alcaraz dominated Stefanos Tsitsipas in the round of 8, advancing to a two-set lead on Court Philippe Chatrier with just three games lost. The 20-year-old appeared to be closing in on victory when he led 5-2 in the third set, but Tsitsipas saved three match points to tie the score at 5-5. After a tie-break, Alcaraz regained the upper hand and won in 2 hours and 12 minutes to go to his first Roland Garros semifinal.

As a result of Tsitsipas losing his first Grand Slam quarterfinal in seven matches, the Greek is now 35-3 on the year, 0-5 against Carlos Alcaraz, and 11-2 at the clay court Major. The third-ranked Novak Djokovic, however, lost the opening set against Karen Khachanov after a sluggish start. But after he evened things up by winning the second set in a tie-break, where he won all seven points, there was no turning back.

The two-time Roland Garros champion Novak Djokovic, who was vying for a record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam victory, would lose just six more games to advance to the clay court Major’s final four for the 12th time. Particularly in the final two sets, Djokovic was decisive on the return, saving four out of eight breakpoints. In addition, he has 58 more winners than Khachanov (37).

Head-to-Head

Alcaraz defeated Djokovic in their lone encounter in the Madrid Masters semifinals, winning in a third-set tie-break.

Predictions

Two of the top athletes competing right now are Alcaraz and Djokovic. The Serbian is a skilled counterpuncher who has had success on all surfaces, in contrast to the Spaniard who possesses a huge serve, strong groundstrokes, and good movement. While Djokovic has a clear advantage in experience, particularly on clay where he is 267-66 and has won 18 titles, Alcaraz has an equally impressive record of 64-13 on the surface, including seven trophies.

But Alcaraz will prevail because he is 25-2 on clay this year whereas Djokovic is only 10-3. It’s interesting that both men have only lost one set while progressing to the last eight. The match has implications for the World No. 1 position as well. If Alcaraz makes it to the final, he will be guaranteed to remain there, but Djokovic will do so by winning the match. Expect Alcaraz to win in a hard-fought battle.
