(Football news) Real Madrid’s current season has been full of ups and downs. Los Blancos are in the semi final of the UEFA Champions League and the final of the Copa Del Rey but in La Liga they are 11 points behind Barcelona. It is not a case where Barcelona have been great and Real Madrid are failing to catch up.

The Blaugrana haven’t been that good but Real Madrid have dropped way too many points. A major position of struggle for Real Madrid has been left back. Ferland Mendy has missed almost half of the season while David Alaba has also been injured a lot. Even when Alaba is fit, Carlo Ancelotti has preferred to play him as a center back. Eduardo Camavinga has done well in that position but he is much better in midfield.

Real Madrid in January had a situation with Rayo Vallecano left back Fran Garcia. Real Madrid had sold Garcia who was a La Fabrica graduate to Rayo Vallecano in 2020. Los Blancos had a buy back option of €10 million and a sell on clause of 50%. Real Madrid contemplated bringing him back in the summer but then decided against it.

However in January they had to act quickly because Bayer Leverkusen wanted to buy him. Los Blancos then activated his buy clause but decided to keep him at Rayo for the rest of the season. His arrival in the summer is great news especially after his performances this season.

Real Madrid may be regretting not calling Garcia back in January as it could have changed the season. Fran Garcia has been incredible this season and he has turned up in the big games against the likes of Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Los Blancos themselves. He would’ve fit perfectly in Madrid’s system and would’ve solved a lot of their problems. It will be interesting to see if he is made a regular immediately next season because Fran Garcia and Vinicius Jr on the same wing will be carnage in an attacking sense.
